Pitcher
Chris Isaac lowered his ERA to an NAIA-best 0.56 after pitching a complete game in the opener, striking out a career-high seven while allowing just one unearned run. Trinity (8-8) struggled at the plate, however, with just a pair of hits in the game. Unable to take advantage of six bases on balls, the Trojans left eight runners on base.
After a leadoff walk in the 2nd inning, LCU's Eric Lattimer stole second base, then scored on an error two plays later for the lone run of the game.
In the second game of the day, Trinity jumped ahead early after a
Jeff Lindberg single and
Nick Chorney walk. Freshman outfielder
Ethan Jarvis would drive in two runs on a fielding error to give the Trojans the lead. The Sabercats (0-2) would take the lead with three runs in the top of the 3rd, on four hits and three errors.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jarvis would drive in his third RBI of the day, bringing home
Matt Latimer for the 3-3 tie. Three innings later, freshman
Nick Gehrt recorded his first career walk-off hit, singling to right field and driving in Latimer with one out in the bottom of the 7th.
Jordan Alvernaz picked up his second win of the year, pitching all seven innings with just one earned run allowed. Senior
Justin VanderNaald went 2-for-3 in the game, for the Trojans' lone multi-hit performance in either contest.
Trinity begins CCAC play next Saturday, when they travel to face the Indiana-South Bend Titans in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
