The seven-game win streak goes down as the longest for the program in over a decade, and was secured thanks in part to freshman pitcher
Grace Magnuson's performance in the circle. The Gurnee, Ill. native went six innings, allowing just one run while scattering six hits on the day.
The Trojans (10-16, 6-6 CCAC) jumped ahead in the 2nd inning, after
Tenley Bozzi hit a one-out double down the left field line. Bozzi then came around to score on a Trinity Christian throwing error on the next play. The Trolls (10-14, 3-9 CCAC) nearly tied the game in the top of the 4th, before an outstanding defensive play ended the threat. With runners on first and second and one out, TCC's Katelyn Sena would hit a single to left center; centerfielderÂ
Payton Carli threw out the first baserunner at the plate, then catcher
Alyssa Doomis gunned down the second trying to advance to third, ending the Troll rally.
Trinity International then added to their lead in the bottom half of the frame, when
Taylor Carli ripped an RBI triple down the right field line, scoring
Josie Emricson. Carli then scored on a wild pitch to give TIU a 3-0 edge. Trinity Christian would score once in the top of the 7th, but
Taylor Carli came on in relief to seal the win, earning her second save of the year.
In the second game of the day, Trinity Christian struck first, with two runs on three hits in the top of the 2nd. The Trojans would respond, tying the game in the bottom of the 2nd on
Jamie Stanton's two-out, RBI triple. In the 3rd inning,
Emily Doomis would hit a two-out triple, scoring
Sara Grygus to give TIU a 3-2 lead.
Trinity Christian rallied again, scoring three runs on four hits in the 4th inning to retake the lead, 5-3. TIU would get one back in the 5th, then after leading the bottom of the 7th off with a pair of singles from
Alyssa Doomis and
Sara Grygus, would tie the game again on Bozzi's RBI groundout. With the potential game-winning run at third however, the Trojans were unable to score again and take the lead.
The Trolls wasted no time in extra innings, scoring three runs on three hits to go ahead 8-5. Two TCC errors in the bottom of the 8th helped Trinity International score a run and put the tying run on base, but Trinity Christian would take the second game to secure the split.
Emily Doomis finished the day with two RBI, both in game two, to lead the team.
Sara Grygus and
Jamie Stanton each finished with three base hits.
The Trojans now prepare for a four-game road trip beginning on Tuesday, April 11, when they face the Purdue-Northwest Pride at 3:00 p.m.
