Cold shooting Trojans drop road matchup to Jaguars

Box Score UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. - Unable to find their groove offensively, the TIU Men's Basketball team came up short on Wednesday suffering a 78-57 loss to Governors State University.

"We picked a bad night to have our worst offensive performance of the season," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "This is the best shooting team I've coached at Trinity, and we shot it really poorly tonight. We also had some uncharacteristc turnovers that lead to easy buckets for them," continued Roberts. "When you do that against a good team you have to be able to rely on your defense and we're just too inconsistent on that end right now."

The 57 points scored was the lowest game total for the season, as the Trojans shot just 30% from the field. In the opening half TIU kept pace with GSU, trailing 17-13 with 9:05 to go. The Jaguars began to pull away in the final minutes, rattling off 28 points before the halftime break to lead 45-28.

The second half saw the Trojans continue to struggle from the field, connecting on just 11-38 attempted field goals, while going 3-22 from long range. At the 11:09 mark in the second half the Trojans cut the deficit to 9 after a layup from O'Shae Williams, but the hot shooting Jaguars continued knocking down shots in the final minutes to seal a 78-57 win over the Trojans.

"Our guys want to win, and we're putting in the work in practice, and i'm proud of that," added Roberts. "We just have to keep learning, keep growing because there is a lot of season left, and our best is yet to come."

The Trojans face another tough opponent this weekend as they host the Roosevelt Lakers inside the Van Dixhorn Arena at 3 PM.
