Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - In one of their best offensive performances of the season the TIU Men's Basketball team defeated East-West University 116-74 in a dominant effort on Tuesday evening inside the Van Dixhorn Arena. It was the second attempt at the non-conference matchup, as the two teams continued the game that was postponed back in November after a hoop collapsed.
"Playing a game that was continued from November was a strange deal, but our guys came out focused and played well," said Head Coach boomer Roberts. "Greg had it going early and his aggressiveness sparked our team. Our bigs received a lot of put-ups from their teammates and coaches after the game for their performances."
The opening half picked up with 8:02 left in the opening half, and the Trojans were dominant from the get go. Trinity would post 26 points in the final 8 minutes of the half to take a 47-36 lead into the locker room at the break.
Greg Carlyle led the way for the Trojans as the Junior registered 19 of his game high 30 points in the opening frame.
Carlyle is now the fourth TIU Guard to register 30 or more points in a single game this season. The Junior joins his brother
Jeremy Carlyle, O'Shae Williams, and Tyrone Carey on the esteemed list.
After the halftime break the Trojans picked up right where they left off, putting up 69 points while shooting 49% from the field and would cruise to a 116-74 victory.
Rick Wright posted a career night for TIU as the Sophomore big man tallied a career high 22 points while also grabbing eight rebounds in the effort.
"Our bigs received a lot of put-ups from their teammates and coaches after the game for their performances. Moving forward we're going to need them all over the glass and finishing at the rim which they did very well tonight," added Roberts. "We had 36 more shots than they did because we turned them over and hammered the glass, and we took care of it ourselves. Obviously when you do that, you have a good chance to win."
The Trojans are back in action this weekend when they return to CCAC action and host St. Ambrose University inside the Van Dixhorn Arena at 3 PM.
