Men's Basketball defeat CCSJ on Upward Night

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - Solid defense, and one of the best shooting performances of the season helped the TIU Men's Basketball team cruise to a wire-to-wire 94-85 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph inside the Van Dixhorn Arena on Saturday night.

"Our guys really answered the call tonight, and we beat a good, tough team in front of a really loud crowd," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "I'm really proud of the toughness we showed tonight, winning a lot of 50/50 balls and getting after it on the glass with Tye, Greg, and O'Shae combined for 24 rebounds from the guard spots."

In front of a raucous crowd on Upward Night the TIU Men's Basketball team yet again put on an offensive show, going 50% from the field while knocking down 15 triples in the win. O'Shae Williams led the Trojans in scoring, finishing with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Greg Carlyle tallied 21 points of his own, while his brother Jeremy added 18 points to round out the Trojans top offensive performers.

With the 18 points Jeremy Carlyle joins an illustrious group of Trojan Basketball players that have eclipsed over 1,000 career points as a Trojan. Carlyle is the first Trojan to score over 1,000 career points since Zach Kirschbaum hit the 1,000 mark during the 2016-17 season.

The opening half of the game saw the Trojans play arguably their best defensive half of the season, holding CCSJ to only 32 points, while scoring 50 of their own. G. Carlyle, and Williams led the Trojans in scoring in the opening frame, tallying 13 and 15 points each respectively in the first 20 minutes.

The Crimson Wave would not go down without a fight in the second half, and came out of the gates quickly to open the final frame. CCSJ would connect on 45% of their shots, including shooting 41% from behind the arc. Though CCSJ continued the battle back, steady offensive production and key stops on defense in the second half helped carry the Trojans to yet another CCAC victory, improving their record to 16-8 (9-5 CCAC).

"Greg was terrific in the first half, and Jeremy and O'Shae made some huge plays in the second half," added Roberts. "TJ and Tye were really good in their decision making in the paint, while Ost and Sam proved again just how valuable dependable seniors are to good programs. Great win, and we want to keep rolling."

The Trojans will look to make it four CCAC wins in a row when they host IUSB inside the Van Dixhorn Arena on Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
