Men's Basketball wins fourth in a row in victory over IUSB

Box Score Story written by: Sports Information Intern, Amber Dieringer

DEERFIELD, Ill.—Yet again, the TIU Men's Basketball team's strong defense and efficient offense led the way to an exciting win over the Indiana University-South Bend Titans, with a final score of 81-75.

"Our first half was as good of defense as we've played all season, and our defensive stops turned into just enough offense for us to get it done," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts.

Multiple Trojan players put up solid scoring efforts in front of a boisterous home crowd, with five Trojans finishing with double figures. Junior Tyrone Carey led the way in offense, adding 21 points, with junior Jeremy Carlyle right behind him with 19 points.

Carey was the first to score with a three point jumper, and he set the pace for TIU to hold the lead for the rest of the half. Carey and J. Carlyle ended the half as strong as they began with with Carlyle picking up a steal and assisting Carey for three.

"Tye was really efficient offensively, and had a huge offensive board late in the game that helped us seal it," added Roberts.

The Titans came out in the second half with fire and a fast-paced offense, narrowing the lead more and more until they eventually stole the lead away from the Trojans for a 65-64 lead.

While the Trojans recollected their defense, Thadeous Johnson held down the team on both ends of the court. Johnson spread the offense around well, and scored a clutch three pointer to take the lead back late in the 2nd Half for the team to hold for the rest of the game.

As the Trojans battled to maintain the lead for the final stretch, Greg and Jeremy Carlyle carried the team both defensively and offensively, collectively scoring eleven of the team's final twelve points.

"I'm pretty pleased at where we're at and how we're playing, and now we finish with 4 of 5 on the road, so we're going to need to continue to play with edge down the stretch," Roberts also added.

The win puts the Trojans at 10-5 in the CCAC, and will look to make it 11-5 on Saturday as they face St. Xavier on the road at 3 PM.
