PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - In one of the biggest wins in program history the TIU Women's Soccer team picked up another CCAC win, defeating undefeated #18 ranked Trinity Christian College on the road on Saturday afternoon.
In the early going of the opening half both sides had their opportunities on frame, but it was the Trojans who would get on the board first. Senior
Kylie Bowman drove the length of the sideline and fired a shot on frame, after the initial shot was saved Sophomore
Jeanine Valera was there to put away the opening score, her fifth of the season.
After holding the Trolls scoreless for the remainder of the first half the Trojans found the back of the net in the 58th minute to extend the lead. Once again it was Valera who put her stamp on the goal. The Sophomore fired a shot from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar, but
Kaylee Wallentine was there at the back post to calmly slot home the eventual game winner.
Despite trailing 2-0 with under a half hour to play the Trolls battled back to cut the deficit to one after a goal in the 64th minute.
Throughout the remainder of the half the Trojan defense stood tall, nullifying any scoring opportunities from TCC. Led by Seniors
Rachel Conrady,
Isabelle Danner, and
Kelsey McCaw the Trojan defense was exceptional all game long.
With two minutes to go in the game and TCC struggling to keep the ball in the attacking third, a handball was called on the Trojans in the box with a penalty kick awarded to TCC. The Trolls would go on to miss the penalty, all but sealing the victory for TIU.
The Trojans will look to add another CCAC win on Wednesday when they host Robert Morris University for their final home game of the 2018 season.
