ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In another MSFA crossover matchup the TIU Football team came up short in a quest for their first win of the season, suffering a 56-23 loss to Missouri Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
With the Spartans opening the game with two quick scores inside the first 5 minutes of the game the Trojans quickly found themselves in a 14-0 hole. But on their next possession TIU got the ground game rolling, as
Derek Lowe took a handoff 36 yards to house to cut the deficit in half.
After clawing their way back into the game the Spartans continued to find success on offense, scoring 21 unanswered points to all but seal the game.
Jonathan Santos had a successful day throwing the ball, racking up over 300 passing yards once again.
Stanford Baker was his favorite target on the afternoon, finding the Freshman for a career high 11 catches in the loss.
Defensively for the Trojans Brad Mowbray and
Thomas Shepard carried the Trojan defense, each registering 10+ tackles on the evening. Jamuari Spivey and
Godfrey Collins II also each tallied a sack to round out the Trojans top performers on defense.
TIU will look for their first win of the season next weekend when they travel to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University at 1 PM.
