WHITING, Ind. - It was another successful weekend for the TIU Volleyball program, going 2-1 and the final CCAC Crossover event of the season, earning 3-0 wins over the University of St. Francis and Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans opened the weekend with a hard fought 3-1 loss to Olivet Nazarene University on Friday evening.
Madeline Decker led the way for the Trojans in their opening game of the weekend, finishing with 12 kills and 11 digs in the loss.
Despite dropping their opening match of the weekend the Trojans bounced back quickly, winning six straight sets on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans cruised through their two wins, sweeping USF and CCSJ 3-0.
Decker and
Brianna Torres both had solid days for TIU, registering double digit kills in both matches to lead TIU to a 2-0 day.
"We always prioritize defense and serving tough, so that's what we rely on to get us back in games," said Head Coach
Luke Ward. "I felt like our offense picked up some slack this weekend and we were able to play well with each other consistently."
"It was a really important weekend for us, and our players responded" added Ward.
TIU will wrap up the regular season next Thursday when they host Robert Morris University on Senior Day.
