DEERFIELD, Ill. - In the Head Coaching debut of
Todd Abernethy the TIU Men's Basketball team used a dominating second half to cruise to their first win of 2018, a 93-71 win over Silver Lake College on Tuesday evening.
The Trojans and Lakers opened the game both struggling to find their shot and get anything going offensively. Neither side would take more than a five point lead in th eopening 15 minutes of the half.
Despite their early shooting woes the Trojans got things rolling the the final minutes, connecting on a pair of big threes with the final one coming from
Jeremy Carlyle with under 10 seconds to play. Carlyle would take the inbounds pass down the floor and knock down the corner three to give TIU a 47-39 lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
In the second frame the Trojans picked up right where they left off shooting the ball, going 48% from the field while scoring 46 points. The strong second half play from
Ajibola Oke-Diran, and
Jamal Bailey helped seal the opening night victory for TIU.
Five Trojans would finish the night in double figures, with Bailey leading the way with 15 points. J.Carlyle, G. Carlyle, Oke-Diran,
Nate Schmidt, and
Thadeous Johnson all finished the night with at least 10 points.
The Trojans will look to pick up their second win of the season this weekend when they play a pair of games in the Grace College Classic, starting with Cincinnati Christian on Friday night.
