#21 Trojans win pair of games in Trojan Classic

DEERFIELD, Ill. - It was a solid weekend for the TIU Basketball team, winning a pair of games over Emmaus Bible College and Concordia University (Ann Arbor) during this weekend Trojan Classic.

The Trojans opened the weekend with a dominating performance over Emmaus Bible College on Friday. After getting out to a hot start in th opening minutes the Trojans used a 22-0 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to all but close out a win to open the tournament.

TIU continued their hot shooting in the second half, defeating the Eagles 90-48. Four Trojans finished the night in double figures, with Jeremy Carlyle, Greg Carlyle, Jamal Bailey, and Nate Schmidt all finishing with 10 plus points.

In their second game of the weekend the Trojans found themselves in a battle with the Concordia University Cardinals on Saturday evening. After trailing 40-32 at the halftime break the Trojans controlled the majority of the possession in the second frame, shooting a solid 48% from the field. With a slim lead down the stretch, Sophomore Brandon Lawani picked a great time to play his best game in a Trojan uniform, posting a career high 19 points, with 15 of them coming in the final 20 minutes. The Trojans knocked down a few clutch free throws down the stretch to seal a three point win, their fourth of the season.

Lawani would lead all scorers with 19, but not far behind was G. Carlyle and Bailey who finished the night 18 points a piece.

The Trojans will look to make it three in a row when they host Calumet St. Joseph on Wednesday for their CCAC opener.
