Men's Basketball fall on the road to Holy Cross

Box Score NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The TIU Men's Basketball team saw their seven game win streak come to an end on Wednesday evening, suffering a 76-67 loss to Holy Cross College.

"Our desire was there tonight, but we didn't guard consistently enough and we couldn't buy a bucket late," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "We took the lead early in the second half, and then we just lost our edge a little bit, and against a good team like Holy Cross that'll bite you."

The Trojans opened the game with a solid performance in the first half, keeping pace with the Saints and eventually taking a 37-36 lead into the break. An 8-0 run with 6 minutes to go in the half put the Trojans with striking distance, and Jeremy Carlyle closed it out with a buzzer beating layup to make it 37-36 in favor of TIU.

TIU struggled finding their shot in the second half, shooting just 35% from the field. After jumping out to as much as a nine point lead in the first 4 minutes of the half, Holy Cross began to battle back and the Trojans couldn't keep pace with HCC down the stretch. The Saints would regain the lead with 12:45 to go and would never trail again, eventually closing out the win and snapping the Trojans seven game winning streak.

"It's tough to win when the home team shoots 27 free throws and we shoot 9, but we didn't share the ball well enough to have success against a good defensive team like Holy Cross," added Roberts. "We'll need to bounce back on Saturday to gain momentum heading into the tournament. Our guys wil be ready down the stretch, and our best basketball is still ahead of us."

TIU will look to close out with the season with a win as they travel to Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, wrapping up the 2017-18 regular season.
