Men's Basketball complete season sweep over SXU

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - For the first time in program history the TIU Men's Basketball came away with a victory on the campus of St. Xavier University as the Trojans completed the season sweep over SXU, defeating the Cougars 86-84 on Saturday afternoon.

Four Trojans finished in double figures on the afternoon with Greg Carlyle racking up 32 points on 12-18 shooting from the field, including 7-10 from long range. Tyrone Carey, and Jeremy Carlyle each tallied 13 points a piece while O'Shae Williams finished the night with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards.

"I'm so pumped for our guys who showed so much resilience and toughness down the stretch," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "We knew it was going to be a 40 minute battle, and our dudes stayed the course. We have a lot of respect for St. Xavier and their explosive potential, so to beat them in a pivotal game on the road is a fantastic win for our basketball family."

The opening frame saw the Trojans come out of the gates quickly, controlling game and leading almost wire to wire through the opening 20 minutes. Trinity International went up by as much as 13 after a triple from J. Carlyle 1:12 remaining, but would head into the break leading 48-37.

During the second half the Trojans picked up right where they left off, knocking down shots and coming up with big plays on the defensive side of the floor, but a late run in the final 6 minutes from the Cougars tied the game 80-80 with 1:52 remaining. After a TIU timeout the Trojans weathered the storm, coming up with a few big stops down the stretch and knocking down their free throws in the final minute. With the win, the Trojans now move to 18-8 (11-5 CCAC) on the season.

"Greg was unreal tonight. He is such a good player who sometimes gets overlooked, but the guy is a gamer and a winner," added Roberts. "TJ, DJ, amd O'Shae were tough on the glass at both ends. We're starting to figure out our identity, but we know we need to keep choosing to lock in and compete for 40 minutes in these next two weeks."

The Trojans look to make it six wins in a row on Wednesday when they travel to Elgin to take on CCAC rival Judson University at 7:30 PM.
