JOLIET, Ill. - The TIU Softball team put up a solid fight but weren't able to muster up a win in a doubleheader against #18 ranked St. Francis, losing 0-2 the first game and 4-7 the second, on the evening of Friday, March 23.
Payton Carli again led the way offensively, going 2 for 3 at the plate in the first game, and hitting for a single and scoring a run in the second game.
Emily Doomis continued to hold the team down defensively with 9 of 18 total putouts in the first game.
Though the team was not able to put together any runs in the first game, the second game showed a much stronger collective effort.
The Lady Trojans started off with the early lead with Jessica Vroman quickly scoring a run in the first inning. Vroman was another leader at the plate as well as she added a pair of singles.
Sara Grygus and Doomis were both able to each score a run themselves and drive in one run each with an RBI single for Grygus and an RBI double for Doomis.
Defensively, the team put together a solid collective effort with four players earning at least three or more putouts.
The first game was pitched by Taylor Carli, and the second by Grace Magnuson. Carli allowed only two runs in a strong six innings, and Magnuson threw for three strikeouts in another solid six innings.
The Trojans look to add another win next Tuesday, the 27th, as they face Judson University in a doubleheader at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. in Elgin.
