WHEELING, Ill. - The TIU Softball team got back on track on Thursday, earning their first conference wins of the season after defeating Cardinal Stritch University 5-4, and 15-3 at Heritage Park in Wheeling.
The Trojans got out to an early lead in game one, scoring 5 runs in the 2nd inning and getting out to a commanding early lead. The inning was highlighted by a
Payton Carli three RBI double, followed by an
Emily Doomis RBI single that proved to be the eventual winning run.
The Wolves began to rally back late in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the 7th to make it 5-4, but
Taylor Carli shut the door inside the circle for TIU and gave the Trojans a 5-4 game one win.
Game two saw much of the same from the Trojans, as TIU jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back. Once again it was P. Carli who sparked the Trojan offense after her inside the park three-run homer in the 2nd that put TIU up for good. T. Carli, P. Carli, Doomis, and
Gina Loy all finished with multiple RBI's in the 15-3 win.
Grace Magnuson put together another solid performance in the circle for the Trojans, pitching 5 innings while allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits.
TIU will look to pick up another pair of wins on Saturday when they head to Bourbonnais to take on Olivet Nazarene University.
