WHEELING, Ill. - In one of their best performances of the season the TIU Softball team swept the top ranked team in the CCAC, defeating St. Ambrose 1-0, and 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Heritage Park in Wheeling.
The opening game of the day saw Sophomore
Taylor Carli pitch a stellar game inside the circle for TIU, throwing a complete game shutout while only allowing just three hits. Carli recorded a pair of strikeouts in the win, while also forcing the Bee's into 12 ground ball outs.
The lone Trojan run in game one came on an RBI Triple from
Jessica Vroman who drove in Carli in the bottom of the third. The lone run was enough as Carli shut the door the rest of the way, giving TIU a 1-0 win.
Game two was a back and forth affair between the twi sides with the Trojans once again grabbing the early advantage. TIU scored the games opening runs after getting on the board with runs in the 1st, and 4th after an RBI single from
Sara Grygus, as well as taking advantage of an SAU throwing error.
Despite the early advantage SAU would not go down without a fight, scoring two runs in the top of the 6th on back to back doubles, tying the game 2-2.
Though the momentum had shifted in favor of St. Ambrose the Trojans didn't let it rattle them one bit.
Lauren Neveau got things started in the 7th, tripling to the right center field wall to put the winning run 90 feet away.
Emily Doomis would come to the plate with the game on the line and the Senior would not disappoint, driving in Neveau to give TIU the 3-2 win and the sweep over SAU.
The Lady Trojans are back at it again tomorrow when they travel to Bourbonnais to take on Olivet Nazarene in an afternoon doubleheader.
