BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - In one of the more anticipated matchups of the season the TIU Softball team came up just short in both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday, falling 8-4 and 3-1 to Olivet Nazarene in conference play.
The Trojans jumped out to an early lead in game one, taking advantage of a pair of ONU errors that led to two Trojan runs in the opening inning.
Despite the opening lead the Tigers would not go down quietly, rattling off the next 8 runs to lead the Trojans in the late innings.
Emily Doomis drove in a pair of runs at the end of the game to make it 8-4 in favor of ONU but the comeback was too little too late as ONU held on for a game one win.
The second game of the day was a pitchers duel throughout its entirety. The two teams combined for just four hits through all seven innings.
TIU once again got out to an early lead after an RBI single from
Tenley Bozzi, but the Tigers fought back into the game once again. With two outs in the 6th inning ONU registered just their second hit of the day, and it was a big one. A three-run HR from Miranda Southhall gave ONU the 3-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The busy week for the Lady Trojans continues tomorrow when the Trojans head to Palos Heights to take on Trinity Christian for a doubleheader starting at 3 PM.
