ROSEMONT, Ill. - With yet another sweep on their resume the TIU Softball team has now won eight straight games dating back to April 12th after winning both games against Roosevelt University on Saturday evening.
The Trojan offense was in full force in game one, and yet again it was
Payton Carli who paced the Trojan attack. The Sophomore went 3-4 on the night, including a single, triple, her fourth HR of the year., and five RBI's.
Lauren Neveau also continued her strong season, going 3-5 while driving in three runs.
After the Trojans took an early 9-1 lead the Lakers would not go down easily, rallying for 5 runs in the final three innings, but
Taylor Carli was strong inside the circle yet again, closing it out for her 11th win of the season.
In game two the Trojans and Lakers found themselves in a battle through all 7 innings. Roosevelt got out to a fast start, doubling in a run in the bottom of the 2nd to make it a 1-0 game.
After a solid performance in game one the Trojan offense seemed to go cold in their second outing of the day, but TIU found their stride when it mattered most. After not scoring through the games first five innings the Trojans added a pair of runs after RU made two errors in the inning.
Leading 2-1 in 6th inning the Lakers clawed their way back into the game yet again, scoring on an RBi single. After neither side was able to score in the 7th inning the game moved into extra innings and this time it was
Sara Grygus who provided the late heroics, driving in the game winning run in the top of the 8th on an RBI single
With the win the Trojans now have 20 wins in a season since the 2007 campaign. The Lady Trojans will look to keep the win streak alive when they travel to St. Xavier University on Monday afternoon.
