DEERFIELD, Ill. - The TIU Baseball team came up short in their lone game on Monday, suffering a 13-6 defeat to the Roosevelt Lakers in Deerfield.
The Trojans once again got out to an early lead in the opening inning after
Matt Latimer scored on a Laker error after reaching base on his first of two hits on the day.
After the Trojans took a 1-0 lead the Lakers fought right back into the game, scoring four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning.
Despite giving up the lead the Trojans would not go down without a fight as TIU rattled off three runs of their own to tie the game 4-4. Mike Balistreri, and
Matt Pierson drove in the Trojan runs to bring TIU right back.
From the 5th inning on it was all Roosevelt. The Lakers continued to score runs, scoring another four runs before Pierson drove in a pair on a double to make it an 8-6 game.
RU added five more runs in the final two innings on an RBI single and a  three run home run. The final few runs in the late innings proved to be to much as the Lakers handed the Trojans a 13-6 loss.
The Trojans will look to bounce back tomorrow when they host the University of St. Francis at 1 and 3 PM.
