DEERFIELD, Ill. - The TIU Baseball team stumbled in their latest doubleheader, suffering a pair of losses to the St. Francis Saints on Tuesday afternoon.
In the opening game of the day
Sam Willis took the mound for the Trojans, firing 4 1/3 solid innings, allowing 7 hits and just 4 earned runs.
Despite the strong outing from Willis the Saints were able to take advantage of multiple Trojan errors to jump out to a 6-0 lead.
Zach Kenter and
Brendan Lacey tried to bring the Trojans back into it late into the game each driving in runs, but the Saints picked up a late insurance to seal a 7-2 victory.
Game #2 saw much of the same as yet again it was the Saints jumping out to an early advantage, scoring the games first 5 runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Luis Henriquez drilled his first home run of his career, while
Matt Latimer, Mike Balistreri and
Matt Pierson all picked up RBI's late to make it a 6-5 game. But just as the Trojans got themselves back into the game USF closed things out with 5 big insurance runs in the 9th to put the game well out of reach.
The Trojans will step out of conference tomorrow when they host Maranatha Baptist at 1 & 3 PM on Senior Day.
