ROSEMONT, Ill. - In their first playoff appearance since 2006 the TIU Softball earned a hard fought win in their opening game of the CCAC Tournament, defeating the St. Ambrose Bee's 2-1 on Thursday morning.
The Trojans and Bee's squared off for the third time this season, as TIU took both regular season matchups, defeating SAU 1-0 and 3-2 back in April.
Trinity International, the #3 seed in the tournament, got off to a solid after
Lauren Neveau laced a two out triple to the left center field gap. Neveau eventually scored on the next pitch after the ball trickled away from the SAu catcher to give TIU a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Trojans would tack on another run in the top of the 3rd inning after another Trojan triple. This time it was
Alyssa Doomis who notched the extra base hit which eventually set up a
Jessica Vroman RBI single to increase the TIU lead to 2-0.
St. Ambrose who was held hitless through 4 innings, continued to fight back through the remainder of the game. SAU got a run back in the 6th inning but
Taylor Carli shut the door on the possible comeback, sealing the Trojans first postseason win since 2006.
TIU now moves into the winners bracket and will play tomorrow morning at 9 AM against Trinity Christian College.
