ELGIN, Ill. - In the opening game of a best of three series between the TIU Trojans and the Judson Eagles, TIU cruised to a 9-1 win over the Eagles, taking a 1-0 lead in the NCCAA North Central Regional Championship.
For the third time this season the Trojans and Eagles faced off and just like the first two times this season the Trojans yet again came out on top. Judson would open the scoring with a run in the first inning, manufacturing the lead after a taking advantage of a Trojan error.
After Judson went up 1-0 in the top of the inning the Trojans stormed back with 6 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st, highlighted by an
Alyssa Doomis RBI single, her first of three hits on the afternoon.
Both sides were unable to get anything going in the next three innings, but TIU grabbed a trio of insurance runs in the 5th and 6th after
Sara Grygus drove in two runs and Doomis knocked in another, sealing a 9-3, 6 inning win for TIU.
The Lady Trojans will try and sweep the Regional Championship and the season series over the Eagles, tomorrow at 2 PM. With the win the Trojans will advance to the NCCAA World Series in Botefort Virginia.
