LAKE WALES, Fla. - In their final day of the Warner University Labor Day Invite the TIU Trojans Volleyball split their two matches of the day, defeating St. Thomas University 3-1, and suffering a 3-0 defeat to McPherson College.
The Lady Trojans put forth a dominating performance in their opening match of the day, sweeping St. Thomas University 3-0, while not allowing more than 20 points per set. After jumping out to an early lead, the Trojans never looked back.
Brianna Torres and
Sam Brenneman led the way for the Trojans, finishing with 9 and 11 kills, respectively. After solid performances the Trojans continued their strong play, eventually sweeping the Bobcats.
Shortly after, the Trojans ran into a very strong McPherson College team that went on to defeat the Trojans 3-1. After dropping the opening set TIU battled back for a second set victory, before falling 3-1 to MC.
Madeline Decker finished the game with a team high 12 kills, leading the way for TIU.
"We played passionate and selfless volleyball today and it was very encouraging to see," said Head Coach
Luke Ward. "Overall this was a good weekend to learn more about ourselves." I am proud of our resilience and fight. I'm excited about conference play this week."
TIU is back in action this Tuesday when they travel to Chicago to take on Roosevelt University.
