DEERFIELD, Ill. - After scoring on their opening drive of the day Trinity International just couldn't seem to stop the offense of Taylor University, eventually handing the Trojans their fourth consecutive loss, 50-13 on Saturday afternoon.
On the openeing Taylor drove of the day the Trojan defense stood tall early, as
Isaiah Lampkins forced the early fumble with
Courtland Boucher picking up the loose ball.
On the ensuing Trojan drive QB
Jonathan Santos marched the Trojans 35 yards down the field before handing the ball off to
Derek Lowe for his second rushing touchdown of the season.
After opening the scoring for the day, turnovers became an issue for the Trojans, throwing a pair of interceptions while fumbling the ball two more times during the remainder of the game.
Taylor would eventually capitalize on the ensuing Trojan turnovers, taking one fumble to the end zone on a 40 yard scoop and score, and returning another nearly 60 yards before being tackled inside the red zone.
With the score at 28-13 after the halftime break, Taylor once again took advantage of a Trojan turnover, intercepting the first play of the second half and taking it 34 yards to the end zone.
After extending the lead to 36-13 it was all Taylor the remainder of the half, scoring two more times before handing the Trojans a 50-13 loss.
Defensively for TIU,
Bradley Mowbray,
Godfrey Collins II, and
Thomas Shepard all finished with double digit tackles.
The Trojans will have a bye week next Saturday before returning home to take on Olivet Nazarene University on 9/29.
