DEERFIELD, Ill. - It was another solid performance for the TIU Volleyball team, coming away with a pair of victories in their two matches on Friday afternoon, defeating Indiana-Northwest 3-1 before sweeping St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-0 inside the Van Dixhorn Arena.
After dropping the opening set of the match to IUNW the Trojans rallied back to convincingly win three straight sets of the Redhawks, led by the strong play of
Brianna Torres and
Sam Brenneman. The pair would lead the Trojans to 27-25, 25-19, and 25-10 victories over IUNW to seal the win.
Torres finished the game with a match high 15 kills, while also tallying 19 digs for yet another double-double on the season. Brenneman would tack on 12 kills of her own to round out the Trojans top offensive performers in game one.
In their second match of the day the Trojan offense picked up right where it left off, cruising to a 3-0 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
The Trojans showcased a balanced scoring attack as this time it was
Madeline Decker and
Deb Kovalczuk who led the way for TIU, finishing with 12 and 13 kills, respectively.
"We played well today," said Head Coach
Luke Ward. "I was proud of our team and our ability to be flexible. Our team made a commitment to be better each play and we stayed in the moment and kept grinding, the players took ownership and they deserve this," added Ward.
The Lady Trojans are back in action tomorrow as they host William Penn University on the final day of the Trojan Invite.
