CHICAGO, Ill. - It was another stellar performance from
Jeremy Carlyle as the Senior scored a team high 24 points including a last second buzzer beating layup that sent the Trojans to a 94-92 victory over Roosevelt University on Saturday afternoon.
Carlyle paced the Trojans with 24 points while
Jamal Bailey,
Nate Schmidt,
Thadeous Johnson, and
Greg Carlyle all finished the night in double figures to round out the Trojans top performers.
Trailing 45-37 after 20 minutes of play the Trojans used one of their best halves of basketball all season to induce yet another come from behind victory. Big buckets down the stretch including 18 of Carlyle's 24 points coming in the second half helped TIU get right back into the game.
With the score tied 92-92 with 37 seconds to play, both sides traded missed opportunities but it was the Trojans who would convert to take the victory. J. Carlyle had two opportunities in the final moments to seal the win, and after missing the first jumper he grabbed his own rebound and put it back up for the buzzer beating layup to snap the Trojans three game losing streak.
"It was a great road win for our team today," said Head Coach
Todd Abernethy. "Our theme going into the game was from 1 Corinthians 13 which was to fight for each other and model Christ's love for one another."
"The guys went out there and played their best game of the season. I'm really proud of our 23 assists and just 11 turnovers, as well as getting stops on defense when we needed it most," added Abernethy. "I love this team and have seen a lot of growth in everyone. Hoping to build off of this as we host Cardinal Stritch on Wednesday."
The Trojans will look to make it two CCAC wins in a row when they host the wolves inside the Van Dixhorn Arena on Wednesday night.
