JOLIET, Ill. - Playing one of their best games of the 18-19 season the TIU Men's Basketball team closed out an 84-76 road win over #25 ranked St. Francis on Wednesday evening.
Greg Carlyle led the way for TIU offensively as the Senior finished with a game high 26 points, while not far behind was
Brandon Lawani who tallied a season high 18 points and
Thadeous Johnson who finished with 17 points of his own.
The Trojans controlled the pace of the game throughout the entire night, leading almost wire to wire. Trailing 17-16 midway through the opening half the Trojans went on an ensuing 7-0 run and never looked back from there.Â
Leading 36-33 at the break the Trojans kicked it into high gear offensively in the second half, shooting 66% from the field to go along with going 6-9 from behind the three point line.
The strong shooting gave TIU a game high 17 point lead late in the second half, en route to a big 84-76 victory.
"Tonight was one of our best games of the season," said Head Coach
Todd Abernethy. "We played a complete game on both sides of the floor from start to finish."
"Defensively, we did a great job at guarding the three point line and getting stops. We held them to just 42% from the floor while offensively we shared the ball well and had 18 assists to just 6 turnovers." "We had so many guys step up and contribute, it was a total team effort!" added Abernethy.
TIU will look to make it two in a row when they hit the road to take on (RV) Calumet College St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
