BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International University men's soccer team played host to the Andrews University Cardinals on Thursday afternoon at Schartner Field in non-conference action. Prior to kickoff, the Trojans honored their lone senior, captain Luke Stell as part of the team's senior day recognition.
While TIU was able to maintain good control of the ball, they found themselves down early as the Cardinals scored the game's first goal on a long pass to Abel Siamubi, who slipped the ball just past Trojan goalkeeper Daniel Hill in the seventh minute.
Trenton Garside got the Trojans on the board later in the first half with the tying score late in the 34th minute from just outside the box. TIU and Andrews entered the halftime break tied at one.
In the 48th minute, Garside found the net again as he tapped the ball past Cardinals goalkeeper Marcelo Mansur on a throw in from Caleb Wells. Xavier Brown, who scored two goals in Wednesday's win over Trinity Christian, recorded his third goal in two days after a long kick from Hill found Brown wide open for the easy score in the 52nd minute. Josiah Joseph would add another Trojan goal in the 80th minute from the right side to give TIU extra insurance en route to a 4-1 win.
The Trojans return to conference action on Tuesday, October 15 as they host the Holy Cross College Saints at Schartner Field. Kickoff is set for 4:00PM.
