BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer took on the Holy Cross College Saints on Tuesday afternoon at Schartner Field. The misty, wet conditions made the ground difficult for the Trojans to get into a rhythm, but the Saints were off to a quick start and held on for the majority of the game en route to a 3-2 win over TIU.
Â
The Saints struck first after a free kick from Luis Correa set up Axel Valenzuela for a great header into the side netting in the 11th minute. The Trojans would struggle to find possession as the Saints would have another opportunity just five minutes later after another header Correa dribbled through the back line along the end line and served one into the box to find Cliff Brown on an easy finish to go up 2-0 early.
Â
The half would end with the Trojans struggling, but they would come out stronger as a penalty kick drawn by
Josiah Fuchs entering the area and being taken down, would set up
Luke Stell for the penalty kick that would be put away in the top left corner to pull back the Trojans in the 72nd minute.
Â
Just minutes later, the Trojans marched down and drew a corner kick served by
Trenton Garside that would be served long to be headed back into the mix by Jamin Kumpfer, to center back Zach Mawdsely, who flicked it just over the end line before being cleared away, but the goal would still stand and even the game at 2-2 in the 80th minute.
Â
Holy Cross got an opportunity just moments later as a service from Correa again would set up forward Daniel Lynch to stick one in the back of the net around
Daniel Hill to go up 3-2Â for Correa's third assist on the day as time expired.Â
Â
The Trojans return to action on Saturday, October 19 at home as they host the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints at 2:30PM.Â
