Trojans fall at Olivet Nazarene

BOURBONNAIS, ILL. ---  The Trinity International University volleyball team took on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers on Tuesday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a week where they won four of their last five matches, the Trojans looked to keep the momentum going.

In a battle of two of the top three teams in the CCAC, it was the Tigers who would prevail in a three set sweep over TIU, 17-25, 12-25, 20-25. After falling behind early in the first set, the Trojans fought back to tighten the match, before the Tigers rallied to pull away.

In the second, despite a good start, TIU struggled with a number of attack errors, allowing ONU to climb back into set and eventually use an 8-2 run to close out the second. The third set saw the Trojans at their best with 12 total team kills. However, on a night of errors, the Tigers prevailed to hand TIU just their third conference loss of the year. The loss now puts the Trojans in possession of third place in the CCAC, one game back of ONU, and two back of first place Trinity Christian.

Deb Kovalczuk and Matty Hawkins both led the Trojans with seven total kills each, while Penina Sao notched 12 digs on defense.

The Trojans return to action on Tuesday, October 22 as they return home to Van Dixhorn Arena to host the Saint Xavier Cougars. First serve is set for 7:00PM.
