BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International University volleyball team played host to the Indiana University-South Bend Titans on Tuesday night at Van Dixhorn Arena in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Following a tough weekend that saw the Trojans drop two straight matches, TIU looked to rebound with a solid home win.
The first set saw the Trojans and Titans trade blows offensively with TIU holding the slight advantage, thanks in large part to their defense. With the help of a number of mistakes by the Titans, the Trojans held off a late push to take the first set, 25-22.
In the second, the Titans came out strong with a potent attack, led by Hannah Marchand and Robbie Berg. The Trojans however were able to not allow the Titans to go on any long runs to stay with them throughout the set. Pushed into a close finish, Matty Hawkins delivered the decisive blow for TIU with the set clinching kill to take the second set, 27-25.
The Trojans used their late second set momentum entering the third using a 9-4 run to put the Titans into an early deficit. Slowed by defensive errors, the Titans were unable to stop the TIU attack as the Trojans rolled in the third 25-18 to complete the three set sweep.
The win now puts TIU into a tie for second in the CCAC standings with a 6-2 record, a game and a half behind first place Trinity Christian.Â
TIU returns to action on Saturday, October 5 at 12:00 PM as they host the Roosevelt Lakers at Van Dixhorn Arena.
