BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International University volleyball team welcomed the Roosevelt University Lakers to Van Dixhorn Arena on Saturday afternoon in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. TIU, who entered the match near the top of CCAC, was given all they could handle in a tightly contested match throughout the afternoon.

After opening the first set in a close battle, the Lakers rallied to take the lead, and ultimatly took the set 25-22. The Trojans responded with a similar attack in the second, pulling away in middle of the frame behind the attack of Skyler Muramoto. TIU would go on to clinch the second set by a score of 25-13.

In the third, Roosevelt employed a faster pace of play to catch the Trojans off guard. This allowed the Lakers to take advantage of several attack errors by TIU en route to a 25-14 win in the third set. In the fourth, the Lakers would continue the quick pace, but the Trojan defense stood firm in the face of a relentless attack. Behind the attack of Sara Andric, Brianna Torres, and Kierra Koepke, the Trojans rallied and used a 5-0 rally to close out the fourth set 25-16, forcing a decisive fifth frame.

TIU bolted out of the gate in the fifth as they carried their offensive momentum over from the fourth. With Madeline Decker and Matty Hawkins leading the offense, the Trojans rolled through the winner-take-all set 15-7 to take the match three sets to two. On defense, Penina Sao led the Trojans with a total of 25 digs. Torres, Decker, and Andric each recorded nine kills offensively each as well.

The Trojans return to action on Tuesday, October 8, as they travel to face the Calumet College of Saint Joseph Crimson Wave at 7:00 PM in Whiting, Indiana.
