BOURBONNAIS, Ill. --- The Trinity International University Trojan women's soccer team took on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers in Bourbonnais on Tuesday. ONU, who entered the match as the last unbeaten team in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), were hoping to continue their win streak at home, but the Trojans had other intentions.
ONU dominated from the beginning, having 15 shots in the first half and only allowing TIU to have three. Although the Tigers outweighed the Trojans in the box score, the half ended 0-0 with goalkeeper Rebecca Wells and the Trojan defense exhausted after the large number of opportunities the Tigers would have.Â
The second half started in favor of ONU as the Tigers would score the first goal from Teagon Albert, being assisted by Sarah Buffum from 40 yards away to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Trojans would receive pressure the entire half, but in the 60th minute after a throw in would find Hannah Fuchs at the top of the box, Makena Walker would find the ball and put it into the side netting to level the match at 1-1.
The second half would end 1-1 with the Trojans having just eight shots compared to the Tigers 31. The overtime periods would be the same way as ONU would have another nine shots and an opportunity to apply more pressure. Although the Tigers didn't finish score in the first extra time period, they would have a golden opportunity after a penalty kick would be gifted to them with under four minutes left in the game. While the Tigers were given a perfect chance to walk away from the match with three points in the standings, Wells would again stop the Tigers from scoring with an amazing save for the remainder of overtime, ending the match in a 1-1 tie. With the tie, the Trojan sit in a tie for fifth place in the CCAC standings with Holy Cross with 16 points.
The Trojans return home on Saturday, October 26 at 12:00PM to host the Judson University Eagles, and to honor the program's senior members.
