Trojans fall at #15 Saint Xavier, 58-26

CHICAGO, Ill. --- The Trinity International University football team took on the 15th ranked St. Xavier Cougars on Saturday afternoon in Mid-States Football Association play.

The Cougar offense jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, scoring 16 points in the first five minutes of play off a 12 yard touchdown run by Vance McShane, a safety after a bad TIU punt attempt, and a 30 yard touchdown pass from Alex Martinez to Nick Czeszewski. Despite the Trojans scoring on a one yard touchdown run by quarterback Nolan Brammer, the struggles continued as the Trojans would end the first quarter after giving up a season-high 37 points in the first 15 minutes.

As the game progressed, TIU was able to find some rhythm offensively. Brammer found Jimmy Campbell for a 40 yard touchdown pass midway through the second, followed by a 26 yard touchdown strike to Marc Wallace. The Trojans provided the only score of the entire second half as Brammer connected with Campbell for another touchdown pass from 25 yards early in the third quarter, as the Trojans fell to the Cougars by a score of 58-26.

Brammer ended the day with a season-high 267 yards passing, completing 24 of 47 passes with three touchdowns and two interceptions, as well as a team-high 31 yards rushing. In addition to his two touchdown receptions, Campbell tallied seven total catches for 95 yards. On defense, Courtland Bouch led both teams with 12 total tackles, including four solo.

The Trojans return home to Leslie Frazier Field on Saturday, October 12 as they host the Missouri Baptist University Spartans. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
