CHICAGO, Ill. --- The Trinity International University men's soccer team took on the Saint Xavier Cougars under the lights on Saturday night at Deaton Memorial Field in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. After recording a 0-2-2 record in their last four games, the Trojans looked to get back to their winning ways.
TIU cracked the scoreboard first in the 24th minute as Zach Mawdsley notched his first goal of the season. Assisted by Josiah Fuchs, Mawdsley scored off a deflected pass from a free kick from yards out to give the Trojans the early 1-0 lead, which they would hold up to the halftime break.
In the second half, the Cougar offense came alive. Saint Xavier's Cesar Correa found the net unassisted in the 52nd minute to tie the game. Nine minutes later, Kyle Skopec, assisted by Victor Valencia, scored to give the Cougars the lead in the 61st. Valencia himself found the net just eight minutes later from 30 yards out in the 69th minute, before assisting Fabin Lopez with Saint Xavier's fourth goal of the game in the 81st. Both teams took seven shots on goal, but it was the Cougars who capitalized on their opportunities en route to 4-1 win over TIU.
The Trojans return to action on Wednesday, October 9 as they return home to Schartner Field to host the Trinity Christian College Trolls. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
