BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU Lady Trojans took on Indiana Northwest Redhawks on Wednesday night to open up their first conference home game. The Redhawks ranked 25th in the nation would look like a tough matchup for the Trojans.
TIU would start very strong on the back of Carly Schelbo capturing a career-high 18 points in the game to lead to Trojans. The first half would find the Trojans up by four, shooting 47.4% from field goal range and knocking down three long range baskets for a 31-27 lead over the Redhawks at halftime.
TIU would come out stronger as a huge third quarter would push the Trojans past the Redhawks from being able to get back into the game, shooting 64% and out scoring the Redhawks 19-8 with a 15 point lead going into the fourth quarter where the Trojans continued their domination with the largest lead of the game of 24 points. The Trojans would have a 52.9% shooting percentage and would be perfect on the night at the free throw line to help secure the win, 66-50.
In addition to Schelbo's 18 points in 35 minutes of play, Taylor Hibicke would find 12 points in her 29 minutes, while Kassandra Ybarra would have four rebounds and six assists to dominate the game.
The Trojans travel to University Park to take on the Governors State Jaguars on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 PM for another conference matchup.
