BANNOCKBURN, Ill. -- The Trinity International University women's basketball team took to the court on Saturday after as they hosted the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave at Van Dixhorn Arena in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a 15-point win at Holy Cross earlier in the week, the Trojans looked to continue their winning ways.
TIU notched a season-high 89 points in an offensive clinic during the 89-51 win. The Trojans got out to a quick start, holding CCSJ to just eight first quarter points, while shooting 46% from the field, and hit three baskets from beyond the arc.
While both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the second, six CCSJ turnovers helped the Trojans as Carly Scheblo scored six points in the period, including a three-point shot. TIU's defense held their opponents to just 11 points as they enter the halftime break, leading 34-19.
The Trojans exploded in the third period with an offensive avalanche with a 36-point performance. Kassandra Ybarra found her shot from mid-range and did Krystal Walker, while Alina Jahnke and Scheblo pushed TIU inside the paint, as the defense recorded five steals to create more opportunities on offense.Â
Entering the fourth, Kelsey Kelley, Amber Reynolds, and Hunter Noa paced the Trojans throughout the final ten minutes of play. While the shooting was not as strong as it was in the previous quarter, the defense continued its dominance as it grabbed ten rebounds, six coming on offense to deny CCSJ they comeback, as TIU cruises to the 38-point victory.
Scheblo would lead the game with 23 points, while Ybarra recorded 16 points, and Jahnke with 11. Walker would end the day just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight assists. Defensively, the Trojans would record 15 total steals on the day and hold CCSJ to 31% shooting from the field.
TIU returns to action on Monday, December 16 as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on the Grace Christian University Tigers in non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM CST.
