CRESTWOOD, Ill. - Looking to build off of a successful Spring Break trip the TIU Baseball team opened CCAC Conference play on a high note, tallying a season high 19 hits en route to a 19-6 win over the Lakers on Wednesday afternoon.
Roosevelt jumped out to an early lead in the opening innings, using a trio of extra base hits in the 1st to take a 2-0 lead.
After trailing early the Trojan offense began to get things rolling, and there was nothing that would get in the way. TIU would take a 3-2 lead after a
Matt Latimer RBI single and a
Emmanuel Andujar 2 RBI Triple, a lead they would never relinquish.
That was not the end for Latimer, as the Junior had a career day for TIU. Latimer finished the night 4-5, with 3 runs scored, and a career high 7 RBI's. The Georgetown, Ontario native finished just a home run short of completing the cycle.
Andujar closed out his performances with 3 hits and 4 RBI's, while
Blake Lazaris and
Enyel Santana all had multi-hit performances in the victory.
Junior
Mitchell Apple got the start on the mound for TIU, tossing 5 solid innings to earn the win.
The Trojans are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they hit the road to take on Judson University at 4 PM.
