WHEELING, Ill. - Looking to cap off the regular season on a high note the TIU Softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Mount Mary University, defeating the Blue Angles 5-1 and 9-1 on Monday afternoon.
The Trojans opened the first game of the day with four unanswered runs in the first three innings.
Hannah Gentry drove in the first Trojan run of the game, collecting an RBI groundout before
Sara Grygus drove a single to left center field to cap off a two run inning.
TIU continued their strong offensive start in the third inning when the Trojans tallied another pair of runs off the bat of
Brooke Heraty and
Jessica Vroman to sealed 5-1 opening game victory.
In the second game of the day the Trojans took advantage of some early MMU walks, scoring four runs in the first inning on just one hit.
The Trojan offense continued to pour it on in the later innings, with Grygus and Gentry driving in runs in the 4th and 6th innings to cap off a 9-1 victory in 6 innings.
