The Trinity International University men's soccer team took on the Siena Heights University Saints on Saturday, August 31 at Schartner Field in Deerfield. TIU dominated the match offensively, out-shooting the Saints 25-13, but the Trojans shots would only fall on goal 12 times as the Saints found the frame eight times, as Siena Heights defeated TIU 2-1 in the Trojans home opener.
The Trojans would start strong and keep the ball on the attacking half for the majority of the first half, but did not capitalize on any opportunities. Meanwhile, the Saints found the back of the net as forward Remy Collard would strike from the right side after defender Gustavo Barros would serve the ball in through the back line in the 27th minute. Siena Heights would go on to lead at the halftime break, 1-0.
The second half would start strong for the Trojans with the same strong possession as in the first. TIU found their opportunity as junior Josiah Fuchs dribbled past two defenders, and hit a cross pass into the box to find sophomore Tyler Kooi, who delivered the equalizing goal in the 75' minutes to tie the game at one.Â
Just minutes later, the Trojans nearly took the lead as Josiah Fuchs was given the opportunity to shoot a penalty kick shot. Fuchs would be denied as Saints goalkeeper Leo Hisamatsu would make an incredible save to maintain the tie.Â
Just moments later, Siena Heights grabbed the lead back when forward Robin Bopeso dribbled his way through the TIU defense to finesse a shot into the back of the net for the Saints second goal and the game winner.Â
The Trojans will take on Viterbo University on Monday, September 2, at 2:30 PM at Schartner Field.Â
