BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International University football team took the wet, rain soaked grass on Leslie Frazier Field on Saturday afternoon in Deerfield for their 2019 homecoming game against the seventh-ranked Marian University Knights.
After initially stalling the Knights (2-0) offense on the opening drive, the Trojans (1-3) were unable to stop the Marian offense from rolling down the field and scoring on the first drive of the game with a Charles Salary four-yard touchdown run to take an early 7-0 lead. While TIU was able to put a number of solid drives together, they struggled to establish an effective running game as the Marian defensive unit stopped almost every runner in their path.Â
Salary and Money Woods would find the endzone for the Knights again to put Marian up 21-0 before a lightning delay put the game on hold for about 40 minutes. After the storm passed, the Knights continued to move the ball with ease as the rain continued to lightly fall throughout the remainder of the afternoon. After finding the endzone two more times on a Johnny William 49-yard strike from Ethan Darter, and a pick six from Nickai Poyser,, the Knights went into the halftime break with a 41-0 lead.
The Trojans were able to slow down the offensive output by Marian in the second half as both teams stuck to the run game to adapt to the wet playing conditions. Marian would score two more rushing touchdowns in the third period to round out scoring en route to a 55-0 win over TIU.
The Trojans will hit the road next Saturday, September 28 as they take on #22 Siena Heights University in an 11:00 AM kickoff in Adrian, Michigan.
