BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International women's soccer team took on the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose on a rainy Saturday afternoon to kick off conference play, and the 2019 homecoming weekend.
The Trojans started off strong holding possession well, but the Bees had their fair share of opportunities in the first half. Katie Reitz started off the scoring for Saint Ambrose after a blundered clearance left her with an open opportunity in the 31st minute. Just minutes later Erin Smothers would put her mark on the game with an open chip shot over Rebecca Wells.Â
TIU would come out strong in the second half when Makena Walker put one in the back of the net just two minutes into the half. Although Walker lifted the Trojan's energy, it would not last long when just a couple minutes later Reitz would have a strike from far out to hit the crossbar and in to notch her second goal of the game.Â
Kaylee Wallentine would stamp her goal and cut the deficit to one after a shot from the side of the penalty area would curve off the post and find the netting. Despite the late push, St. Ambrose would respond with two more quick goals late to defeat the Trojans 5-2.
TIU will travel to face Roosevelt University on Tuesday, September 24 at the Keating Center in Chicago. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
