The Trinity International University men's soccer team took on Aquinas University on Friday afternoon at Schartner Field, wrapping up a three-game homestand. The Trojans (2-2) eager after beating Viterbo earlier in the week started well against the Saints (1-1-2).
TIU dominated play the first half with double the total number of shots than Aquinas and having four corner kicks compared to the Saints not have a single corner in the first 45 minutes. A late goal in the first put the Trojans on top 1-0 with a delivery from Nick Willard, finding the head of Josiah Joseph to put TIU up going into the halftime break.
The Trojans struggled in the second half with the Saints having 13 shots over TIU's four. Aquinas scoring two minutes into the half from Bailey Whalley, following up a shot that fell to his feet on the end line. Whalley followed up on a corner kick that wasn't cleared out by TIU just two minutes later to put the Saints in front 2-1.
In the closing minutes, TIU tied the game as a service from Nick Willard, and header from Josiah Joseph fell to Sean Fenton's feet, allowing for the easy shot to tie the game at two goals a piece with two minutes remaining in regulation.
Fenton's equalizer gave the Trojan's new life, but saw it quickly fade away as a foul with three seconds remaining on a stopped clock would be served in to find Jai Tahlan for Aquinas to win the game at the final buzzer, 3-2.
The Trojans hit the road next on Tuesday, September 17 as they visit Gary, Indiana to take on Indiana University Northwest at 8:00 PM.
