Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trojans women's basketball falls at RMU

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- After mother nature delivered a mountain of snow the night earlier, the Trinity International University women's basketball team traveled to nearby Arlington Heights to take on the Eagles of Robert Morris University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Fresh off a defensive battle at Indiana Northwest on Wednesday night, TIU looked to continue their momentum against an RMU team that they were defeated by on November 26 by a score of 81-63 at home.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead with a pair of three-point baskets by Carly Scheblo and Kassandra Ybarra, before the Eagles hit their stride with their quick speed, pressing defense, and high volume of shots taken. RMU would notch six second chance points to also help grow their lead. Despite six turnovers in the first ten minutes, was able to move the ball well and cut the Eagle lead to take a 21-16 at the end of the first.

In the second, after no change to the score in the first three minutes of the quarter, the Eagles struck first. RMU was able to control the majority of possession of the ball due to 19 offensive rebounds and nine steals in the first half. The Trojans shot five-for-nine from the floor while the Eagles hit nine of 26 shots. Closing the half on a 21-10 run, RMU entered the halftime break with a 42-26 lead.

As the second half began, the Eagles continued to show their offensive firepower as they opened the period up on an 11-0 run, backed by three baskets from beyond the arc. Only hitting 11.1% of their shots from the floor, TIU struggled to revive their offense out of the break as they found several of their shots to be too strong and off their mark. The Trojans were able to find some offensive success in the final minutes of the game, but it would not be enough as RMU's strong early play and ability to force turnovers and grab key rebounds that handed TIU the 78-46 loss.

Alina Jahnke recorded a team-high 13 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high tying five blocked shots. Taylor Hibicke notched  eight points, six boards, and three assists in the loss, while Scheblo recorded seven points.

The Trojans return home to Van Dixhorn Arena on Wednesday, January 22 at 5:30PM as they welcome the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University to Deerfield. TIU will be in search of their first win against the Wolves since February of 2012.
