Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tough shooting slows Trojans in loss at Holy Family

MANITOWOC, Wisc. --- The Trinity International University men's basketball team kicked off the final week of the 2019-2020 regular season on Monday night as they traveled to northeastern Wisconsin to take on the Lakers of Holy Family College in a non-conference game. Coming off a 40-point loss Saturday at St. Francis, the Trojans looked to rebound with a much needed road victory.

After a slow start offensively, TIU found their rhythm shooting the ball against a Laker team that started out the game with heavy offensive pressure. As the first half ticked down, the Trojans began to struggle to maintain possession as their shooting began to struggle. Holy Family used a 24-9 run to end the first half to take a 52-37 lead over the Trojans at halftime.

The TIU defense continued to struggle in the second half as the Lakers sank four baskets from beyond the arc on a night where the home team shot 9-22 from downtown. While the Trojans were able to work inside with Diamond Presniakovas and Thadeous Johnson for 32 points in the paint, the TIU defense struggled to stop the high-shooting Lakers, who found the bottom of the net 56% of the time. With 13 turnovers and allowing 12 offensive rebounds, the Trojans dropped Monday night's game by a final score of 91-75.

Prensniakovas recorded 22 points and six rebounds for TIU in the loss, while Ron Pehka scored 19 points, while hitting three buckets from beyond the arc, his first game with 15 or more points in a month. Johnson ended the game with 13 points of a 5-14 shooting night, including a team-high seven boards.

The Trojans return to Van Dixhorn Arena on Wednesday, February 19 for their final home game of the season as they host the 19th-ranked Holy Cross College Saints. Members of the senior class will be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day ahead of the 7:30PM tip.
