Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trinity snaps skid with win over Maranatha Baptist

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- After a tough conference loss Saturday afternoon to Lincoln, the TIU women's basketball team hosted NCAA Division III Maranatha Baptist on Monday afternoon in non-conference action. Having dropped their last four games, the Trojans looked to rebound with a much needed win.

After a close first period that saw the Sabercats take a 10-9 lead, the Trojans dominated the second quarter holding their opponent to just seven points in the period, while rattling off a 13-2 run to take a double-digit lead. Backed by good defense with six steals and strong offensive rebounding, TIU found Alina Jahnke four times in the paint for eight points in the second frame as Trinity took a 26-17 lead into the halftime break.

The Trojan offense continued to play well into the third period with Aleia Milano scoring seven points in five minutes off the bench. MBU attempted a late rally into the fourth, but TIU's depth throughout the second half provided a much needed spark down the stretch as the Trojans snapped their four-game losing streak with a 58-48 victory.

Jahnke led the Trojans with a 16 point, 12 rebound double-double with six blocks, four coming in the first quarter alone. Carly Scheblo notched 11 points, while Taylor Hibicke recorded ten points, five rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Milano ended the night with nine points off the bench.
