Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trojans thrive in second half rout of Calumet

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team returned home to Schartner Field on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted the Crimson Wave of Calumet St. Joseph in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a 6-3 loss at Holy Cross (IN) last Saturday, the Trojan looked to snap their eight-match losing streak at home.

Trinity would apply pressure early and often on the Crimson Wave, forcing their opponents to play the majority of the match on defense. CCSJ was able to break through on a breakaway sequence that saw Tarrel Mcray score the first goal of the match in the 35th minute. Ten minutes later, in the opening seconds of the second half, Jonny Mueller put the Trojans on the board off a pass from Joel Kirakos to tie things up at one a piece.

For the remainder of the afternoon, TIU kept the pedal down offensively. Trenton Garside put the Trojans ahead 2-1 in the 66th minute off a Sammy Olague pass, while Olague found the net just five minute later on an assist by Josiah Fuchs. Ahead 3-1, Mueller scored his second goal of the day in the 76th minute on a Garside pass, as Jorge Vasquez put the ball past CCSJ goalkeeper Jose Molina in the 81st minute thanks to a corner kick from Edwin Zuniga. Xavier Brown put the finishing touches on Trinity's excellent offensive day with an unassisted score in the 86th minute, giving TIU the 6-1 win, and ending their recent string of tough losses.
