ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team travelled to nearby Morris Field on Saturday as they took on the Lakers of Roosevelt University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a 2-0 loss on Wednesday at home to Cardinal Stritch, the Trojans looked to bounce back and snap their recent losing streak.

The Lakers would crack the scoreboard first in the 33rd minute on a free kick from 30-yards out on the goal by Marvin Lopez on a shot past TIU goalkeeper Armin Mahmutovic. Roosevelt would take a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute as Todor Simonovic scored a shot to the left side of the goal on the assisted pass from Sebastian Rodriguez.

Trinity would strike back six minutes later in the 54th minute as Jonny Mueller put TIU on the scoreboard with a free kick from 18-yards out. After Roosevelt stretched their lead back to two goals in the 60th, Josiah Fuchs found the back of the net on a penalty kick goal in the 70th minute. While TIU was able to hang tough with the Lakers, Roosevelt would add one final goal in the 71st minute to hand the Trojans the 4-2 loss.

ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES

• With today's loss, the Trojans fall to 0-10-1 all-time against Roosevelt. Trinity's lone tie with the Lakers came in 2018 in a 3-3 match at home.

• Josiah Fuch's penalty kick goal in the 70th minute was TIU's first made penalty kick of the 2021 season. 

• Jonny Mueller's goal in the 54th minute of play was his second of the season, and fifth of his collegiate career.

• Fuchs penalty kick score was his third of the year, and 14th of his career. Fuchs, who leads all active Trojans in goals scored,  is now one goal away from joining the program's top ten all-time scoring list.

UP NEXT

The Trojans (1-10-0) will have a week off before returning to the field on Saturday, October 9 to host Olivet Nazarene for homecoming. Kickoff for the Trojans and Tigers is scheduled for 4:00pm CST at Schartner Field, with the game being streamed LIVE on the Trojan Sports Network.
