CHICAGO, Ill. --- Saturday afternoon the Trojans traveled downtown to face the #16 Cougars of Saint Xavier in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. Despite a strong last half push, Trinity was unable to close the gap and dropped to the Cougars 72-86.
Keeping it close during the first quarter, the Trojans put up 14 points against 19 by the Cougars.
Alina Jahnke had six points, shooting 100% in the first ten minutes. Beneath the net,
Louisa Schmidt dominated with 5 total rebounds.
Despite only a single-digit deficit entering the second quarter, the Trojans couldn't match the Cougars shot rate and the scoreline grew. Entering the third quarter down 29-50, Trinity rallied late in the quarter and went on an 18-4 run and outscored Saint Xavier 23-15.
With less than eight minutes remaining in the game, the Trojans pulled the score close again within four points as
Da'Naria Washington dropped a layup in the paint. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Cougars answered with a 19-11 run of their own and ran away with the rest of the game.
Trinity ended the game with five players in double-digit shooting, with
Aniyjha Graves and
Alina Jahnke tied with 16 each. Two Trojans shot a perfect score from the line as Jahnke went 8-8 and
Hattie Black shot 2-2, a season-high for both Trojans.
