OAKLAND CITY, Ind. --- In the final match of the Dunn Hospitality Group Classic, the Trojans faced the host team, the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University. Looking to ride out 2021 on a three-game winning streak, the Trojans started strong but couldn't maintain the momentum and the Mighty Oaks would ultimately win 88-93.
Jack Kahoun got the game started with a 3-pointer less than thirty seconds into the game followed by another by Sterling Brown. Throughout the rest of the half, Trinity would shoot strong from the perimeter at over 45%. At fifteen minutes remaining, Oakland dropped a 3-pointer to take the lead which was immediately recovered by Brandon McQueen with a 3-pointer of his own. From then until the break, the Trojans maintained the lead with a score of 52-46 at the half.
Leading the team in scoring from the first half, Brandon McQueen kept up the pressure in the second dropping another 14 points with a 75% shooting accuracy. Five minutes into the second half, the Mighty Oaks tied the game at 58-58 and the Trojans gave another push for the lead going on a 7-0 run. Trinity struggled to rebound underneath the net and Oakland gained the upper hand while countering with a run of their own, increasing the score to 69-79 and taking the final lead.
Despite yesterday's loss to the Mighty Oaks, Trinity takes 1st in the NAIA with most points scored in the season (1,486).Â

Next week the Trojans(8-9) return home for three consecutive CCAC matchups, first again the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University. The game is scheduled for January 5th at 7:30pm CT and can be live streamed on the Trojan Sports Network.
